Leadership and Collaboration
Teachers' most important tool is in-depth knowledge of their students' learning needs. Teachers need thorough grounding and continuous updating in the disciplines, curriculum, assessments, and technologies they are responsible for, viewed through the lens of the learning goals and student performance. Administrators are responsible for ensuring that teachers have this learning foundation and for providing time and tools for them to focus their shared skills and insights on the learning needs of each student in the school. To effectively deploy their collective skills, teachers depend on periodic and formative assessments indicating how each student is progressing toward their learning goals. This information will enable the school team--all teachers, administrators and support staff--to tailor each student's learning experience to his or her unique educational needs.
